Read what is so special about Agni-V missile

India made entry in very precious club after the successful launch of Agni-V missile. After which DRDO stated that Agni-V is a major achievement for India. Agni-V missile is India's first ever intercontinental range ballistic missile designed and developed by Defense Research And Development Organisation (DRDO).

Indian President Pranab Mukherjee and Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated Defense Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) scientists who were behind the launch.

"Congratulations DRDO for successfully test firing Agni-V. It will enhance our strategic and deterrence capabilities,"  President tweeted. "Successful test firing of Agni V makes every Indian very proud. It will add tremendous strength to our strategic defence," PM tweeted.

Now Let's take a look at the specifications of Agni-V missile.

Specifications of Agni-V:

Class: Inter Continental Ballistic Missile (ICBM)

Length: 17 m

Diameter: 2.0-2.2 m

Range: 5,000-8,000 km

Launch Weight: 49,000-55,000 kg

Agni-V is developed in such a way that It can be carried by a road mobile truck which means missile is capable of moving anywhere in the country. It consists of three stage solid fueled missile. This range covers all china and parts of Europe. With this India is now part of ICBM Club where until now only five countries had this technology across the globe: United States, Russia, China, France and Britain.

Agni V is programmed to reach the peak of the trajectory and then turn back towards the earth, towards the target. By doing o it gains more speed because of the gravitational pull by the earth. Atmospheric air rubbing the skin of the missile during the re-entry phase raises the temperature to beyond 4000 degrees Celsius.

Agni-V is three stage, solid propellant, surface to surface, nuclear capable missile that can reach Beijing, can easily hit 70 percent of Europe. It has MIRV capabilities which means It can carry multiple warheads to engage with multiple targets.

The China too has ICBM technology which can hit targets upto 13000 kms has raised concerns over the test of Agni-V which is actually a good news for India. Chinese foreign ministry made noise over Agni-V calling It is affecting Strategic balance and stability in South Asia.
Agni-V being launched

This was fourth and final test being done on Agni-V. Earlier we test was conducted on 19 April 2012, second was on 15 September 2013 and the third on 31 January 2015 from a mobile launcher complex-4 of the Integrated Test Range (ITR).

We haven't stopped here. We have already started working on Agni-VI. Next post will be of Agni-VI.
